Prima dată am auzit de GHOST de pe blogul lui Fenriz de la DARKTHRONE (blog care s-a transformat ulterior în pagina Band Of The Week ). La vremea aia, GHOST lansaseră un demo cu 3 piese şi 7”-ul ”Elizabeth”; ce am auzit acolo m-a rupt, efectiv. Poate a contat şi faptul că sunt mare ascultător de chestii de genul MERCYFUL FATE vechi, însă bucuria a fost mare de tot în momentul în care am realizat că se mai face muzică pe filmul ăla, adică un hard rock/heavy metal ocult (ocult din punct de vedere al textelor/temelor abordate).
Opus Eponymous e un album al naibii de mişto. Poate puţin cam scurt, totuşi. Multă lume s-a plâns cum că vocea lui Papa Emeritus nu ar fi suficient de puternică, însă personal fix chestia asta m-a atras. E un fel de King Diamond, dar fără falsetto-ul caracteristic şi fără a încerca să copieze originalul. Per total, albumul are ceva din aura unor albume MERCYFUL FATE clasice, cum ar fi Melissa şi Don’t Break The Oath, însă nu lipsesc nici riffuri sănătoase de heavy metal. Repet, o fi vorba şi de subiectivitatea mea la mijloc : ). Aş fi preferat, totuşi, ca pe album să se păstreze soundul existent pe demo şi pe 7”; acolo trupa suna foarte organic şi brut. Sunt tare curios cum va fi albumul numărul 2 :).
Big up pentru Rise Above Records (celebra casa de discuri a lui Lee Dorian, unde s-au lansat nişte mega albume de la trupe ca ELECTRIC WIZARD, MOSS, BLOOD CEREMONY, FIREBIRD, WITCHCRAFT sau UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS) pentru aspectul grafic al albumului.
